People are making all sorts of New Year¡¯s Resolutions. This list includes: spending more time with family, working out, losing weight, quitting smoking, getting out of debt, etc.

For the Christian, there is a list of spiritual disciplines which are even more important. In 1 Timothy 4:8, it says that ¡°physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.¡± Paul is saying that spiritual disciplines will bear fruit in our daily lives and also in the eternal life to come.

In Colossians 3, Paul gives two lists. One list is some things we should get rid of. He says to ¡°Put to death (v. 5)¡± these sins. In verse 12 Paul gives a contrasting list of things to add to one¡¯s life. As you look over these two lists, may you make a New Life Resolution in 2005 to put to death the old things and put on the new lifestyle.

1. ¡°Put to Death¡± (Col. 3:5-9) List
- sexual immorality
- impurity
- lust
- evil desires and greed
- anger
- rage
- malice
- slander
- filthy language from your lips
- lying

2. ¡°Clothe Yourselves¡± (Col. 3:12-14) List
- compassion
- kindness
- humility
- gentleness
- patience
- bearing with one another
- forgiving others
- love
