'True Detective' Season 2 Cast: Rachel McAdams & Taylor Kitsch Roles Revealed; Detective Ani Bezzerides & Officer Paul Woodrugh

True Detective' Season 2 Cast Rachel McAdams

After HBO confirmed that Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams will be in in "True Detective's" second season, it has also been revealed that the McAdams has landed the role of Detective Ani Bezzerides while Taylor has taken the role of Officer Paul Woodrugh.

Likewise, both will be joining previously announced stars Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell on Nic Pizzolatto's HBO drama series.

McAdams, who is best known for her starring roles in "The Notebook" and "Mean Girls", is described in "True Detective" as a "Ventura County Sheriff's detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves, and whose troubled upbringing is to blame for her gambling and drinking problem," noted Rolling Stone

Rollingstone also noted that for the Bezzerides role, "Mad Men's" Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Biel, Jessica Chastain, McAdams, Rosario Dawson, Malin Ackerman, Brit Marling and most recently Keira Knightley were billed as frontrunners to land the role at some point. However, Chastain was immediately dismissed after rumors of her involvement, as did Christian Bale when headlines tied him to one of the show's lead male roles.

On the other hand, Taylor's character will be seen as a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a memorable past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never actually happened.

Actress Kelly Reilly, who is best known for her roles in the "Sherlock Holmes" films and the Denzel Washington drama "Flight" will be taking the role of Jordan Semyon, who will be Frank Semyon's (Vince Vaughn's) wife.

Meanwhile, a report from Variety says McAdams had long been favored for the role, but a scheduling conflict with the film Spotlight about the Catholic Church sex scandal stopped her from committing to True Detective immediately.

Despite the conflict, a compromise was reached that would allow the actress to handle both projects.

During "True Detective's" critical acclaimed first season, every actor in Hollywood has been rumored to appear in the next installment of the anthology series and ever since Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson transformed themselves into Marty Hart and Rust Cohle.

Moreover, it has also been revealed that "True Detective" will depart from the mysticism and general foreboding environs of swampy post-Katrina Louisiana and travel to sunny California for a whodunit that revolves around three police officers and a career criminal who navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
