The upcoming Android update, the Android Lollipop 5.1, is now coming in February for all major devices instead of the initial scheduled release in summer.
The new update will first be incorporated into the Nexus devices and will be expected to address a number of issues with the operating system that have repeatedly disrupted the performance and functionality of such devices, such as the reduced ability to connect to Wi-Fi.
Google rolled out the Android Lollipop 5.0.1 update last December whereas the Lollipop 5.0.2 was only released in Nexus 7 devices. It remains uncertain as to when it may be launched in other devices. As such, Android fans who are looking forward to this latest experience can now get their hands on the Nexus 9 tablet or the Nexus 6 smartphone.
With numerous handsets running the KitKat 4.4.4, users are already looking forward to an upgrade to Lollipop, which will call for manufacturers to customize their handsets and their network partners to roll out the software.
Nonetheless, the Lollipop update has already been released in a wide range of devices. LG, for instance, was the first to roll out the said update to its flagship G3 device last November 9 in Poland.
Although many had looked forward to LG releasing the updated G3 handsets in the UK from late November to December, the company has yet to push through with such release.
Meanwhile, Samsung has incorporated to the Lollipop update into its Galaxy S5 handsets. Similar devices to follow include the Galaxy S4, Note 2, Note 3 and Note 4.
Motorola has also received praises in being quick to update its devices; the company has already confirmed that the Lollipop update is coming to a number of devices including the Moto X (1st and 2nd generation), Moto G (1st and 2nd generation), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini. Motorola has also put up a webpage through which users can track their device's status by inputting their country and network.
The Lollipop update is also coming to a wide range of Sony Xperia devices, including the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, Tablet Z, Z1, Z1 S, Z1 Ultra, Z1 Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z3, Z3v, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact.
In a blog post, Sony also mentioned that the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series will be experiencing the Lollipop upgrade at the start of 2015 while the rest of the devices will follow.
For HTC, the Lollipop update will be rolling out soon to HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7), as confirmed by the company last November.
