Windows 10 Release Date: New Windows OS to Run on Phones, Could Share Apps with Desktop

During Microsoft's press event, the Redmond-based company unveiled a number of surprises which include new devices, software and electronic components to expect in the succeeding months.

However, for people who have been waiting for the latest version of Windows, they are surely in for a treat in the coming months.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the new Windows 10 version will run on all types of devices whether they are phones, tablets or desktops. In the event yesterday, Microsoft gave the audience a glimpse of how the new software works, particularly in a mobile phone setup.

In the presentation, Microsoft used a Nokia Lumia 1520 to showcase how Windows 10 for mobile phones work. The new version will still feature the same live tiles setup, though Microsoft made the Settings and Action Center menus similar to that of the Windows 10 version for desktops.

Windows Phone fans will surely love how Microsoft is doing whatever it takes to unify the experience across all Windows-powered devices. Late last year, Apple did the same thing with the new iOS 8 version, which allows the iPads and iPhones to 'communicate' easier with MacBooks.

Some of the presented programs which would be available for Windows 10 for phones include Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as Skype. The report also mentioned that users would be able to conveniently re-arrange the virtual keyboard so that they would be able to type easier.

Just like Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 10 will featue voice-enabled features brought about by the virtual assistant, Cortana. However, once Windows 10 launches, Cortana will be able to seamlessly integrate whatever you are doing with your smartphones directly into the desktops.

In the report by GSM Arena, the Windows 10 will first hit mobile phones in February, where members of the company's Preview program may participate. Once Windows 10 comes out for desktops, tablets and smartphones, all owners of supported devices may be able to upgrade for free.
