iOS 8.2 Release Date, Feature & Rumors: New Update Introduces Developers To Apple Watch, Watchkit Compatibility

Just a day after releasing the iOS 8.1.3 update for supported devices, Apple has released the iOS 8.2 beta that will roll out to developers.

According to a report by 9to5mac, the update will introduce the developers to some new features, particularly support and compatibility with the Apple Watch and Watchkit.

Reports indicated that the update will bring some bug fixes, security updates and other improvements in performance. The Cupertino-based manufacturer has released the Xcode 6.2 beta 5 with build number 6C121 on the iOS Dev Center as well. Developers can update their devices through the Settings app in their devices or via the iOS Dev Center.

The new iOS 8.2 beta 5 release, which supports Apple Watchkit features and provides compatibility with the Apple Watch, carries a build number of 12D5480a up from 12D5461b.

In the report, aside from the Apple Watch compatibility, the beta will also improve the functions of the iOS 8's Health app. The app will now come with more descriptions for different measurements to provide a better health experience to users.

Aside from releasing the iOS 8.2 beta 5 update for supported devices, Apple also released a new beta version for the Apple TV software, which further improves performance.

The beta testing for the Apple Watch compatibility feature is right on schedule as a recent report stated that the Apple Watch release date is just around the corner. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently announced that the most awaited smartwatch from their company will be unveiled in April.

The Apple Watch device was first announced during Apple's event last year, where the company unveiled the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the new iPad Air 2, and the iPad mini 3.

While most Apple fans and consumers were expecting a stylish and rounded watch like the ones launched by Motorola (Moto 360) and LG (G Watch R), the company chose to develop a square-ish wearable device that will provide some new features when connected to other Apple devices.

Based on the Apple Watch launch event, some of the tasks which the device can do include sending text messages, calling phone numbers, fitness tracking, and even display app notifications.
