Bruce Jenner's involvement in a multiple car collision in Malibu on Saturday was surrounded by speculations ranging from the possibility that the celebrity was drinking while driving to rumors of him texting instead of paying attention on the road. The reality star remained mum throughout the weekend but decided to break his silence in a statement given to People.

"My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident," the former Olympian said.

"It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time," the former Olympian disclosed. He also added that he continues to pray for the loved ones of the victims as well as expressed his desire to cooperate with the investigation "in every way possible."

The 65-year-old was one of the people included in the crash that occurred around noon time on the Pacific Coast Highway. According Sgt. Philip Brooks, the sheriff of the Los Angeles County, Jenner expressed his full cooperation to submit himself to all the tests and investigation procedures necessary.

Brooks also disclosed that the athlete passed a field sobriety test. Jenner also willingly submitted a blood sample for the investigators to test whether he was intoxicated at the time of the accident. All examinations were conducted at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, California.

"He did not appear intoxicated or under the influence of anything at the time," Brooks shared referring to the results of the tests.

Reports reveal that Jenner was heading north when his vehicle, a black Cadillac Escalade, rear-ended the car in front of him, a white Lexus sedan, which earlier hit the back of a black Toyota Prius. The four-car pileup, which placed the celebrity's vehicle third in line, resulted in the hospitalization of seven victims. However, the driver of the Lexus died on the scene of the accident.

Brooks explained that the vehicle of the victim who passed away, an old lady in her 70s, swerved into the onrushing traffic in the opposite lane going south. This caused the Lexus to ram itself head-on with another incoming vehicle, a black Hummer.
