Korea Campus Crusade for Christ (KCCC) is sending students abroad once again this summer for short term mission trips. Approximately 200 students are being sent to 13 countries, and are busy in preparation and raising funds. All of the teams are leaving this week to their respective mission fields. However, Korea Campus Crusade staff and students express that the process of going on mission trips this summer has been more difficult than previous years.

The number of students committing to go abroad has dropped from what used to be over 350 students to the current 200. And while in previous years most students usually were able to fill their funds at least a week before going to the field, most students this summer are still scrambling to raise funds with less than five days left until departure.

Staff and students have many speculations as to why the process has become so difficult. Some staff have expressed concerns that the students this year lack conviction and desire to go abroad.

Parental opposition has also become increasingly greater over the years. A parent who asked to remain anonymous expressed her concern.

"With all of the weird things happening in the world these days, I can't be certain of my child's safety, and because of that, I can't send her abroad. You just never know what's going to happen anymore."

Financially, college students are on a tight budget, and it seems like many students have been receiving mission letters from more people than they can afford to support.

"There are so many friends that gave me their mission letters and I want to support all of them, but I only have so much money. Even after narrowing down to the people that I really have a heart for, it's still pretty difficult for me financially," one student explained.

Although the process of going on mission trips has never been easy, these and perhaps other factors seem to be making the process even more difficult for students going on mission trips with Korea Campus Crusade this summer.
