‘Battlefield 4’ Update: DICE Works with Gamers to Design New Map

Battlefield 4

Game developer EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) has unveiled a new project that involves working with gamers to design a new map for "Battlefield 4."

According to the development studio, the map will be revealed sometime in 2015 through the game's Community Test Environment. Only premium members of "Battlefield 4" will be able to access the map.

DICE made the announcement through the "Battlefield" blog, Battlelog. The studio noted that the Community Map Project will bring together its development team and gamers.

After the map is unveiled through the Community Test Environment, players can provide their feedback on what other changes and improvements can be made before its final version is released.

Aside from this, "Battlefield 4" players will also get the chance to learn how development studios build multiplayer maps.

DICE said that once the map is finished, it will be released as free downloadable content for all platforms.

"As a thank you to the 'Battlefield' community for sticking to your 'Battlefield 4' guns and giving excellent feedback to improve the game, we want to show our appreciation by releasing the Community Map as a free download, available to players on all platforms," DICE stated in the blog post.

Aside from the new map, the studio will also release the Winter Patch in March of this year. The new update aims to fix several issues including netcode and character collision problems. In addition, the patch will also improve the game's team-based competitive mode Squad Obliteration.

"Battlefield 4" was first released on Oct. 29, 2013. The first-person shooter game debuted for the Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 platforms.

Upon its launch, the game suffered multiple technical problems. As a solution, the game's publisher EA decided to extend the development period of succeeding "Battlefield" games to ensure that DICE has enough time to test them and avoid possible glitches, IGN reported.
