British actor Ben Hardy was one of the few names being considered for the role of Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops in the new X-Men film Apocalypse, which will be directed by Bryan Singer.
And while he did not get the role (it went to Tye Sheridan instead), 24-year-old Hardy apparently made quite the impression since producers have decided to still take him on - but with another mysterious role.
People are still guessing who Hardy will play, but so far sources have revealed that "the part is significant to the X-Men universe."
Prior to X-Men: Apocalypse, Hardy made a name for himself playing Peter Beale in the small screen. Hardy has been with the BBC show EastEnders from 2013 to February 24, 2015 when he made his final appearance.
Other new names recruited for X-Men: Apocalypse include Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
This leaves Hardy's new role as one of the other younger mutant versions - possibly even Piotr Nikolaivitch Rasputin, otherwise known as Colossus, according to Cinema Blend.
Meanwhile, the First Class group of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will be reprising their roles as Professor Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Beast, respectively.
Rose Byrne will be Moira MacTaggert, while Hugh Jackman will most likely be back as Wolverine. All of the X-Men have to set aside their differences and battle the powerful mutant Apocalypse, who will be played by Oscar Isaac.
Meanwhile, Magic Mike and G.I. Joe star Channing Tatum has been confirmed to take on the role of Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit. But while his appearance in Apocalypse remains uncertain, Tatum believes that producers "have to slowly massage" him into a world that is honest and true to the history of the character.
He even said that it's a very delicate path to walk on, but added that he would do anything to give justice to the character of Gambit.
He told Screen Rant, "I would do anything to be in those movies. I mean, I love the Marvel world and what they've created as a real brand and they've sort of changed the face of the industry. I would be in anything they put up, especially Gambit."
The plot of Apocalypse will be set in the early 1980s, and will be written by Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris, and Simon Kinberg.
The production crew has already planned to start filming this summer. X-Men: Apocalypse has been scheduled for a May 27, 2016 release.
