Samsung Galaxy S6, Edge S6: Specs, Price, Release Date & What to Expect

Samsung

The wait is almost over for Samsung fans as two new flagship phones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, are scheduled to be launched on April 10. Here are the phones' specs and comparisons that should help you decide which Samsung S6 phone to pick up.

Perhaps one of the main concerns of those waiting for the new Samsung phones is what networks would carry the smartphones. Good news is all four major mobile carriers in the United States will have the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on their shelves once it gets released.

What to Expect

Samsung has bid farewell to its plastic case, and replaced it with sleek and elegant glass and metal. What's really nice about the S6's glass back is it is Gorilla Glass 4, which is unbreakable, unlike that of the iPhone, according to sources.

The S6's surface is made of glass that has a colored inlay surrounded with brushed-metal edges.

The rumors that the new Samsung phones will be capable of wireless charging are true. The new smartphones are charged via charging pads. Samsung has also taken security up a notch by upgrading the phones' fingerprint sensors. The S6 phones will run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with TouchWiz.

A few downsides of the new Galaxy S6 and Edge S6 phones are as follows:

  • They are not waterproof
  • The memory is not expandable
  • The battery cannot be swapped

Display

Everyone is expecting the new flagship phones to have exceptional display and design. Samsung ensured that it does not disappoint fans. The Galaxy S6 boasts of a 5.1-inch QHD (2560x1440) Super AMOLED display, 577 ppi; the S6 Edge also has the same display, but with dual curved edges.

The S6's display is definitely an upgrade from S5's 1920x 1080, 432 ppi display.

Weight

If there is one thing that separates the new Galaxy flagship phones from its predecessor, the Galaxy S5, it would be the weight.

The S5 weighed 145g, while the Galaxy S6 weighs 138g, and the Edge S6 is slightly lighter at 132g.

Price

Samsung has not released any price for the new flagship phones yet. But according to rumors, it won't be too pricey. The price range could be around $699 to $780 if rumors ring true.
