MTV Movie Awards 2015: Channing Tatum, Emma Stone, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Lead Nominations, Oscar Winners Also Get Nods

Channing Tatum with '22 Jump Street' co-star Jonah Hill

The nominees for the MTV Movie Awards 2015 were announced last Wednesday, and Channing Tatum ('22 Jump Street', "Foxcatcher'), Emma Stone ("Birdman', "The Amazing Spider-Man'), Rosamund Pike ("Gone Girl') and Shailene Woodley ("The Fault in our Stars') are among the celebrities who have received the most nods.

Stone and Woodley have been nominated for the best female performance category to contend with Jennifer Lawrence ("The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1'), Reese Witherspoon ("Wild') and Scarlett Johansson ("Lucy').

Tatum will be battling it out with fellow male actors for the best male performance category, including Bradley Cooper ("American Sniper'), Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy'), Ansel Elgort ("Fault in Our Stars') and Miles Teller ("Whiplash').

Superhero film "Guardians of the Galaxy', romantic drama film adaptation "The Fault In Our Stars' and comedy movie "Neighbors' also lead the nominations with seven awards each.

Extreme categories have created a loud buzz among fans and moviegoers, especially with awards such as "Best Shirtless Performance', "Best WTF Moment' and "Best Fight.'

Many of the MTV Movie Award nominees this year come from the blockbuster films of 2014, although several dramatic works such as "Whiplash' and "Birdman' have also been recognized.

ScreenRant discusses that there is a significant difference between the films that were acknowledged at the recently concluded Academy Awards and those that were watched by average moviegoers in cinemas last year.

Such disparity has been highlighted in the MTV Movie Award nominations this year, which range from historical drama film "Selma' and coming-of-age movie "Boyhood to Kate Upton's shirtless performance in "The Other Woman' and Jonah Hill's "WTF moment' in '22 Jump Street.'

To be hosted by Amy Schumer, the 2015 MTV Movie Awards will be airing on April 12 at 8 p.m. live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Promising exclusive scenes from new movies, the show will air across MTV's international network of over 60 channels and 200 digital media properties.

Fans have several weeks to go to cast their votes for their favorite films, celebrities and more.
