Maybe it's just perfect timing, but right after the seven-minute animated film Frozen Fever made its premiere alongside director Kenneth Branagh's live action movie Cinderella, Disney Animation just confirmed that it will finally be creating the sequel Frozen 2.

Disney executives revealed the news during the annual shareholders meeting held in San Francisco. It was John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, who made the announcement together with Disney head Bob Iger and Josh Gad, who voices the character of Olaf in the film, according to Variety.

Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are once again handling the project with producer Peter Del Vecho. Lee and Buck were the creative masterminds of the original Frozen film, which promoted sisterly love and friendship.

This news is quite a turnaround from what Lee and Buck earlier said, according to Screen Rant. Just a few weeks ago, the two denied that Frozen 2 will be happening soon and even hinted that a sequel might never happen, therefore breaking a lot of fans' hearts.

"It's been in the press that we are doing Frozen 2, and we would ask each other, 'Are we?' They'd have a date and they'd have a cast and it was like, okay..." said Buck.

Lee added: "It all comes down to the story. Until we find our way into what's next, emotionally, it will feel too big. We just finished the short two weeks ago. One year ago, it was a lot to even think about doing a short. We were quite tired. We don't really know what it's like to stop for a minute and think about what we want to do next."

Maybe Lee and Buck were surprised with Disney's announcement themselves, but either way, fans are extremely excited for the sequel, which has not been given a release date yet.

Big Hero 6 actress Genesis Rodriguez actually let the news about the Frozen sequel slip earlier, but everybody was too focused on Baymax and his crew's story that nobody thought to dig further. When asked about a Big Hero 6 sequel, the actress replied, "There's rumblings of something else happening. I mean yesterday I just saw that it's the third most grossing Disney animated feature, so this is huge for them. I doubt that they wouldn't want to do another one. It was a huge success."

She then said that Disney is already "doing Frozen. So who knows? Maybe they'll do something with Big Hero 6."
