Adele's '21' Tops List of Best-Selling UK Albums of the Millennium

Adele's "21' has become the best-selling artist album of the millennium in the United Kingdom with sales drawing close to five million, a recent survey reveals.

The sophomore album of the British singer-songwriter triumphed over Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black,' thereby topping the list of the Top 50 Official Biggest Selling Artist Albums of the Millennium which is a new list developed by the Official Charts Company.

By selling a whopping 4,740,000 copies of her second album, the "Rolling in the Deep' singer rakes in significantly more than Winehouse and her total sales of 3,560,000 for "Back to Black.'

James Blake takes third place by selling 3,310,000 copies of his "Back to Bedlam' album. "Spirit' by Leona Lewis and "No Angel' by Dido follow closely, rounding up the top five for the biggest selling artist albums of the millennium.

Other music artists who made it to the top 10 include The Beatles ("1'), Michael Buble ("Crazy Love'), David Gray ("White Ladder'), Lady Gaga ("The Fame'), and Coldplay ("A Rush of Blood to the Head').

Robbie Williams and Take That were recognized to have the highest number of appearances in the top 50, with four entries each. Other artists also bagged multiple rankings in the list, including Coldplay with three as well as Dido, Ed Sheeran, Michael Buble, and Rihanna with two entries each.

With its debut in 2011, Adele's "21' remained at the top of the UK album charts for 23 weeks. To top it all off, the success of the 26-year-old singer has also been evident outside of the country.

The album soared to the top of music charts in over 30 countries, approximately having sold more than 11 million copies in the United States alone.

There are no official details, including the title and release date, for Adele's third studio album. However, there are speculations that it might feature a country sound. According to fellow singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson, she "heard [Adele] is doing something more country influenced with this next record."

Following the success of "21' along with receiving four Grammy awards, limited information on Adele's upcoming projects has only spurred more speculations such as Phil Collins being approached by the "Someone Like You' singer for a collaboration. Other rumored artists expected to collaborate with Adele on her upcoming album include Kid Harpoon (Florence & the Machine), James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), and Diane Warren.
