American actress Amanda Seyfried is far from old but she said that she already learned a lot of things as she transitioned from her early into the late 20s.
Seyfried talked about the process of growing up and becoming more mature while promoting While We're Young, which stars Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts. The movie is about a middle-aged couple who undergo a crisis and longingly reflect on their younger years after having an encounter with a younger pair.
While talking to MTV, Seyfried said that she is going to turn 30 later this year and looking back, the actress realized that her maturity level was way different during her early 20s compared to her late 20s.
She said that it is understandable how people only few years younger than she is can find themselves making all the wrong decisions and trying in vain to justify those, especially where love is concerned.
During those years, Seyfried said that it is easy for people to date all the wrong partners - even those involved with somebody else, because they often do not think about the consequences and how their decision will ultimately affect other people.
"You shouldn't, but you give yourself excuses. There's never a time and place for a lot of those things that you justify when you're younger," she said.
However, Seyfried says that it okay to make bad choices as long as people come out of it wiser. She said that bad choices are all part of growing up, and these mistakes teach a person how to move forward in life.
"It's all in growing up and making mistakes," she said. "You think about the consequences. You really, really consider the consequences."
Seyfried started a career in modelling when she was only 11 years old, then started acting at the age of 15. She appeared in soap operas such as As the World Turns and All My Children, until finally landing a lead role in Mean Girls in 2004. Seyfried juggled roles in the small and big screen, from playing Lily in Veronica Mars to starring in Letters to Juliet, Red Riding Hood, and In Time.
She starred in a number of musicals, including Mamma Mia! alongside Meryl Streep and Les Miserables with Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. Seyfried showcased her vocal chops for the movie musicals but said that the thought of singing live makes her feel nervous.
The actress admitted that she loves to sing but not for work "unless it's a movie where you can put it all down in the recording studio and then forget about it," she told ET.
