Tips to Save Space on Your Smartphones or Tablets

Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets have become important tools in people's lives because of how much information they can store.

But like any other device, the storage space of these gadgets has a limit. So, if you want to continue saving precious photos of your friends and family or downloading useful apps, follow these simple steps provided by Fox News to free up space on your smartphones and tablets.

The first and easiest step is to organize the saved photos and videos on your devices. Go to your device's camera app and delete clips and images that were accidentally taken by your smartphone or tablet. These could either be images of the floor, the sky, your hand, the ceiling or even the insides of your jeans pockets.

Then, after sorting through the files, you can transfer your videos and photos to an external hard drive or another device such as a computer or laptop. You can also set-up an online storage program account through Picasa Dropbox or iPhoto to store your files.

Aside from images, this step can also be applied to music files. Although using cloud streaming services such as iTunes for iOS and Google Play Music for Android require subscription fees, taking advantage of these programs will significantly help you in creating more space for your devices.

Another great way to create more storage space on your devices is by deleting some of your apps. Although you may be the type of person who is very peculiar when it comes to the apps you download, chances are, you're probably not using or two of these regularly.

So, before clearing out some of the useless apps, you can see how much storage space they're eating up by checking your device's Settings.

In iOS 8-powered devices, users can go to Settings and click on the General option. Under this is the Usage tab. Clicking on this tab will show the Manage Storage option. For iOS 7 devices on the other hand, the list of apps and their sizes will be automatically shown after tapping the Usage option.

For Android devices, clicking on Storage under the Settings tab will show how much space each file is using up.

Once you get an idea of how much space each of your programs and files are taking up, the next step is deciding which of these are actually useful so you can start de-cluttering your devices.
