Jurassic World Will Not Be As Good As Jurassic Park, Says Colin Trevorrow

Jurassic World

It is so unlike a director to put down his movie weeks before its release date, but this is exactly what Colin Trevorrow is doing with his upcoming dinosaur film Jurassic World.

In an interview with Slash Film, Trevorrow said that the legacy of Jurassic Park, which was created by filmmaking genius Steven Spielberg is really difficult to live up to.

"And to me, it feels - I think when you see this movie, it makes Jurassic Park - I don't want say it feels like a prequel because it's an incredible movie and this movie can't be better than that movie. It's just literally impossible because you can't ever see that for the first time again," he said.

But Trevorrow did say that the movie told the history of how the Indominus Rex was made possible, and that it's "very cool" to watch.

"And when we get to see this movie, you'll be able to watch Jurassic Park in the context of this movie. I think it's a great companion piece to that movie," he added.

The director also said that he relied a lot on Spielberg to get as close as possible to the grandeur that is Jurassic Park, and he is certain that Jurassic World is going to be a "blast."

Trevorrow said that he cannot wait for audiences to witness "the moment of wonder...when you see that the park exists. The park is real."

The director also said that there has always been a goal to create iconic images as they were making the movie, but moments like that cannot be forced, since it just happens and all they have to do is capture it.

There was one particular scene from Jurassic World though that he really loves. Bryce Dallas Howard's character Claire Dearing is running away from a dinosaur, and they saw her feet touching down in puddles.

"And so, we did this close up shot of just her high heels, like, running and splashing into these puddles with these giant feet behind it, like out of focus. And we just were, like, okay, oh, that's going to be cool. That's a thing," he shared.

Trevorrow also talked about the dinosaurs in Jurassic World. He said there will be an Ankylosaurus, which he described as a "bad ass dinosaur." There are other small dinosaurs too, and their appearances will all be pretty cool, he said. They also have a new flying dinosaur in addition to the Pteranodons.
