Even before another iPhone gets released, MacRumors came up with a list of what to expect should Apple announce a new update to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus this September.
Among the features Apple fans expect in the upcoming iPhone is an A9 processor, Force Touch, an improved camera, and different storage capacity ranging from 16GB up to 128GB.
Some expect that the upcoming iPhone may have a similar design as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus but will run with Apple's latest processor. It may also be called an iPhone 6S and 6S Plus having a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays respectively.
With the "S" naming, it suggests that the internals of the upcoming iPhone may be different from its predecessors. Among which is the the use of a 7000 series aluminum casing used in the Apple Watch.
The material is said to be lightweight but stronger than other aluminum types by 60%. It is also rumored to be used in other upcoming Apple products.
Additional RAM is also expected since Apple launched the iPad Air 2 having 2GB of RAM.
As for the camera, improvement may be thru the help of LinX Imaging that Apple recently acquired for about $20 million. The technology uses multi-aperture arrays to create DSLR-quality images . However, there are rumors that Apple might use a two-lens system in the next iPhone.
Perhaps the most interesting feature to see in the new iPhone is the Force Touch technology that is used in the Apple Watch. The feature will determine how much pressure a finger applies in a contact area rather than the whole screen.
Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst for KGI Securities, tells MacRumors that a capacitive force touch display may be used in the new iPhone but will function in a different way. Should this be the case, the new phone may have new gesture controls
Apple recently announced that Force Touch trackpad have been incorporated in an updated 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro and a 12-inch Retina MacBook
Other than iPhone 6S rumor, there's also the iPhone 6c which could possibly be a 4-inch device having a A7 processor with M7 motion coprocessor like its 5c predecessor. However, Kuo said the reported release this year is very unlikely.
Images of a possible iPhone 6c were leaked, which showed a device with a glossy plastic coating, a pill-shaped dual LED flash beside the rear camera, and two rows of speaker grilles at the bottom of the phone.
