Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge's cameras are already great on their own, but Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will reportedly make them even better, a source says.
According to SamMobile's source, the changes are likely to happen once Android's latest Lollipop update has been released to flagship phones such as Samsung's latest Galaxy smartphones. The improvements in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, however, won't be available on units from T-Mobile, as the updated version that was rolled out to these a few days ago may still be incomplete.
Meanwhile, Samsung flagship phones from other providers are likely to receive the complete version of the updated Lollipop.
"Oh, and we have also been told that this particular camera update will be a part of devices that are codenamed Samsung Zen/Samsung Noble," SamMobile reported.
The update, according to the source, will possibly include support for RAW shooting as well as controlling the cameras' shutter speed. It is expected to support the Google camera API for Lollipop. To those unaware, this will make the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones capture and create professional looking photos.
While the update sounds promising, these features are already available on flagship smartphones HTC and LG-- looks like someone did their homework.
The Verge has reported that not every S6 and Edge phone has the same camera. Some units have the ISOCELL sensor from Samsung, while other units are equipped with an IMX240 sensor from Sony.
"The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge utilize camera sensors from several different vendors. Like all of the technology used in our products, they meet our strict global quality and performance standards," the South Korean smartphone maker told The Verge.
Samsung also explained that no matter what hardware is in the recent Galaxy S6 phones, users still get the same great 16MP camera and that the quality stays the same.
Although the camera features from HTC and LG were not included in the latest Galaxy phones, it was reported to be included on Samsung Noble/Samsung Zen, which is the Galaxy Note 5's code name. Noble is said to be released later this year and was reported to be in its early stages of development.
