Chinese smartphone-maker OnePlus is preparing to launch its new operating system dubbed as the HydrogenOS.

The new OS, which is custom-built based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop, will be released specifically for the company's One smartphone users in China, according to NDTV.

The HydrogenOS is the regional counterpart of the OxygenOS for Chinese users. As reported previously, the latter OS was developed by OnePlus in response to a falling out that ended the company's partnership with software-maker Cyanogen.

Similar to the OxygenOS, the HydrogenOS aims to improve the battery life and overall performance of the One smartphone model. It will be launched in Beijing during an event scheduled on May 28, GSM Arena reported.

Aside from the release of the new OS, OnePlus is also tackling several consumer complaints regarding the problems related to the One's touchscreen features.

According to users who flocked to OnePlus' online forum, the touchscreen sometimes becomes unresponsive, which prevents them from using their devices. Some speculated that that hot weather may be affecting the software and hardware features of the smartphones.

In response to the complaints, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei addressed the users and said the company is currently looking into the matter with Synaptics, the firm that handles the touchscreen technology for the One handset.

Pei also noted that only a small number of One users are experiencing the touchscreen-related problem. Despite this, the executive said that both OnePlus and Synaptics are working on a firmware update that will fix the issue.

"We take your feedback seriously and have been putting the One though a battery of tests and determined that there are different issues at play, some software and some hardware," Pei stated in the forum page. "We have, and will continue, to stand behind our products and honor warranty."

"Working closely with Synaptics, we will soon be releasing a final firmware fix," he added. "If you would rather not wait and are experiencing any issues, touchscreen or otherwise, please contact our support team."
