Lumia 540 Release Date, Specs & Features: Microsoft Releases Dual-SIM Smartphone with 5-Inch Display

Microsoft has unveiled its latest handset, the Lumia 540 with dual SIM support. The device will go on sale on May 18, but consumers can pre-order it starting today, NDTV reported.

The Lumia 540 costs Rs. 10,199 or around $160 and comes in flat black, white, cyan and orange colors. There are no updates yet as to when the smartphone will debut in other regions.

Microsoft's Lumia 540 comes with the Windows 8.1 OS out of the box. However, the tech giant noted that the device's operating system can be upgraded to Windows 10 once it is released to the public.

The Lumia 540 sports a 5-inch HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1280p and a pixel density of 294ppi. It has 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128GB through a microSD card. In addition, Microsoft's handset comes with free 30GB of cloud storage from OneDrive.

For the main camera, Microsoft equipped the Lumia 540 with an 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus and LED flash. On the other side, the handset features a 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera. The device is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor from Qualcomm and has 1GB of RAM. It runs on a 2200mAh removable battery.

The device's connectivity options are supported by Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 3G.

The Lumia 540 is the latest handset from Microsoft's Lumia line of devices to hit India. Those who will purchase the device from that region will receive special deals from partner companies, according to Phone Arena.

For instance, pre-paid card provider Paytm will offer Rs 1000 or around $16 cashback to those who purchase the Lumia 540. Buyers are also entitled to receive two months worth of free subscription from Gaana+, which they can use to enjoy streaming music. In addition, they will also get double data offer for two months from Airtel.
