Natalie Portman Set to Play Jackie Kennedy in New Drama; Four Films Now Lined Up for the Actress

Natalie Portman has bagged another role in her full lineup of movies as she was recently announced to star as Jackie Kennedy in the upcoming drama "Jackie.'

Over the past days, four films have already been announced in which the Oscar-winning actress will play a role. Aside from these, her directorial debut "A Tale of Love and Darkness' will make its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

The new drama "Jackie' will follow the story of Kennedy and her first four days after her husband, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated. It will place emphasis on the events that took place when "she lost the love of her life, but won the love of a nation", as Variety reported.

While Darren Aronofsky has been set to produce, Pablo Larrain joins the team to helm the movie. Scott Franklin from Protozoa Pictures and Fabula's Juan de Dios Larrain will also produce. "Jackie' will being production at the end of 2015.

Portman is one of several Hollywood stars to take on the role of Jackie in recent years. Other celebrities who have portrayed the popular political figure include Katie Holmes in the series 'The Kennedys' in 2001.

Minka Kelly also played Jackie in Lee Daniels' 2013 movie "The Butler' while Ginnnifer Goodwin played the same role in the 2013 docudrama "Killing Kennedy.' Even Sarah Michelle Gellar appeared as Kennedy's wife in a 1991 miniseries titled "A Woman Named Jackie.'

Portman has also been set to play the role of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg in "On the Basis of Sex' with which Focus Features is currently in talks to handle its financing and distribution in North America.

In addition, the 33-year-old actress has joined "Planetarium' in which she stars alongside Lily Rose Depp, Johnny Depp's daughter. Both Portman and Depp are set to portray spiritualist siblings in the upcoming drama, which will be helmed by French director Rebecca Zlotowski.

Finally, Portman is reportedly in talks to appear in "Annihilation', a post-apocalyptic horror movie created by Alex Garland, who previously workedon "Ex Machina.' It follows the story of a biologist who joins an expedition to Area X, an unexplored territory that is entirely disconnected from civilization.
