Galaxy Note 5 Rumors and Specs: Samsung Might Unveil New Handset in July to Beat Apple’s iPhone 6S

Samsung is reportedly trying to get ahead of the race against Apple with the early release of its Galaxy Note 5 phablet.

The latest rumors suggest that the South Korean tech firm is targeting a July launch for its upcoming handset to beat the iPhone 6S's alleged September release.

The Galaxy Note 5 was originally scheduled to be introduced on September 4 of this year. However, according to South Korean news site WhoWired, Samsung decided to reschedule the phablet's release for July in order to stay ahead of its competitor Apple.

Given the annual release of iPhone successors, Apple is expected to release the iPhone 6S sometime in September or October. To ensure Galaxy Note 5 will stay ahead of the iPhone fad, Samsung is targeting to unveil it at an earlier date.

Aside from the release of the Galaxy Note 4's successor, WhoWired reported that Samsung might unveil its new mobile payment service, dubbed as the Samsung Pay, in July as well.

Although there are no official confirmations from the company yet regarding the launch schedule, Reuters also noted that the Samsung Pay might be introduced in the same month. If this is true, then the transaction service might be included as a feature of the Galaxy Note 5.

As for its other features, various tech bloggers and other sources have speculated that the upcoming device from Samsung might sport a 5.89-inch display. The Galaxy Note 5 Edge version, on the other hand, could be equipped with a 5.78-inch screen.

Both variants are expected to have a screen resolution of 2160x3840 pixels. They will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos processor and will run on a 4100mAh battery.

The upcoming devices will have a thickness of about 7.9 millimeters, making them 0.6 millimeters slimmer than the Galaxy Note 4, according to Phone Arena.

Despite the abundance of information regarding the Galaxy Note 5, keep in mind that these are all based on rumors and speculations. Samsung is yet to provide an official announcement regarding the phablet's release date and specifications.
