As the upcoming season of "Downton Abbey' will be comprised of eight episodes, the series has been set to air on the ITV network at a later date this year just in time to broadcast its Christmas special episode on December 25.

Filming has already begun for the sixth season and the show's actors have already expressed their hopes on how they would want the story to play out well for their characters.

Hugh Bonneville prefers to see his character Lord Grantham with his wife Lady Cora, played by Elizabeth McGovern, having their own time together away from their problems in life.

Lesley Nicol pictures Mrs. Patmore being surrounded by her close family and friends if she leaves the house and retires. While she is not focusing on a love interest, the actress wants her character to spend more time with the people who care for her to have a happier existence.

Meanwhile, Laura Carmichael wishes for Lady Edith Crawley to pursue writing and remain as an independent individual while venturing out into the world with Marigold.

For Phyllis Logan, she sees Mrs. Hughes as a future businesswoman who will start her own schemes in the cottage industry, not viewing retirement as an option.

Meanwhile, Thomas Barrow should be able to finally find real love, as actor Rob James-Collier wants his character to be more accepted in the society regardless of his homosexuality.

Earning over 50 Emmy nominations, more than any other series in the U.K. in Emmy history, "Downton Abbey' has easily become one of the most highly praised shows on television.

Besides being honored with 11 Emmys, the ITV period drama has also received three Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and three BAFTAs, to name a few.

"Downton Abbey' series creator and write Julian Fellowes already expressed his gratitude for having the opportunity to create a wide range of possibilities with the period drama experience over the past years.

"I do know how grateful we are to have been allowed this unique experience," Lord Fellowes shared. "I suspect the show will always be a principal marker in most of our careers as we set out from here, and if so, I consider that a blessing and a compliment."
