X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has just confirmed another mutant who will be appearing in the next X-Men film - Caliban.

On his Instagram account, the director shared a photo of him working on the set and gave it the caption, "Shooting Caliban's place of 'business.'"

So just who is Caliban? For comic book readers, he is known as the albino mutant who was recruited by Callisto because of his mutant-tracking ability. Callisto was able to recruit other mutants thanks to Caliban and they built a community that would later be known as the Morlocks.

According to Marvel Universe, Caliban was actually named by Callisto after the grotesque being found in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. He was found abandoned in the sewers and subway tunnel beneath Manhattan streets, and because of Callisto's new Morlocks, Caliban felt a renewed sense of family and belongingness. However, he is still unable to shake off his loneliness.

When a chance encounter led him to discover the X-Men such as Storm and Kitty Pryde, he kidnapped Pryde but was intercepted by the heroes. He later explained that he only wanted a friend, and the group of mutants opened their doors to him and asked him to join the X-Men. Unfortunately, he turned their offer down and returned back to the Morlocks.

Since the next X-Men film will center on the indomitable villain Apocalypse, Caliban's appearance might have something to do with him being recruited as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

In the comic books, Caliban is determined to exact revenge on those who killed some of the Morlocks, but found that his passive powers is unable to grant him the revenge which he desperately desired. When he encountered Apocalypse, he swore to serve him as his Hellhound in exchange for powers that will enable him to seek revenge.

However, in gaining more powers, Apocalypse genetically altered Caliban just to increase his size and strength. Caliban proved his worth by facing up to the likes of Archangel, Sabretooth, and Cable's New Mutants. Impressed, Apocalypse granted him a place in his Horsemen as death.

Things eventually do not go well for Caliban. When he comes face to face with the X-Men, he was defeated, all along not knowing that the Apocalypse he and the fellow Horsemen served was actually Mister Sinister in disguise.

X-Men: Apocalypse has been scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
