Widely recognized for portraying Captain James T. Kirk in the "Star Trek' franchise reboot, Chris Pine is now reportedly in negotiations to head over to the DC Universe. According to Variety, the actor is expected to take on the role of Steve Trevor, the love interest of Wonder Woman in her standalone movie to be released in 2017.

Based on the "All Star Comics' #8, Trevor made his debut alongside the Amazon princess and, although his character has been altered a number of times over the years, the original version of his story followed his experience of being a U.S. soldier. His plane crashes on Paradise Island, which exposes the secret society to the world.

With Pine being announced to finally be in talks for the "Wonder Woman' movie, this clarifies the previous speculation that Scott Eastwood would be taking on the role of Trevor.

Although Clint Eastwood's son reportedly considered playing the part, the "Fury' actor eventually ended up with a different role for the David Ayer-helmed "Suicide Squad.'

While Pine is best known for portraying Captain James T. Kirk in the 'Star Trek' reboot movies, he has also starred in 'Into the Woods', 'The Princess Diaries: The Royal Engagement', action flick 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' and the award-winning animated movie 'Rise of the Guardians.'

Meanwhile, Gal Gadot has already been attached to take on the leading role for "Wonder Woman', to be helmed by Patty Jenkins ("Monsters').

The DC Comics character is also expected to make her first ever cinematic appearance in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' that has been scheduled for 2016. Wonder Woman could be making appearances across the new cinematic universe prior to the release of her film on June 23, 2017.

DC Comics fans can also look forward to the Amazon princess playing a key role in "Justice League Part One' that will hit cinemas on Nov. 10, 2017.

Meanwhile, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' is expected to be a semi-sequel to "Man of Steel" that was released in 2013. The forthcoming Justice League film has been scheduled for an official release on Mar. 25, 2016.

Aside from Gadot, newcomers Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg are on board to play Batman and Lex Luthor, respectively. Henry Cavill will make a comeback as Superman while Amy Adams will reprise her role as Lois Lane.
