David De Gea is open to staying at Manchester United in the long run, but it appears the goalkeeper is already on his way out of Old Trafford if recent soccer transfer rumors are true.

The Daily Star reported that De Gea will move to Real Madrid this summer despite numerous attempts made by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal to convince the Spanish goalkeeper to stay at Old Trafford.

Sources indicated that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will open his bid for De Gea at around £20 million, which will be too hard to pass up for Manchester United.

Perez is determined to acquire De Gea, who is also on the radar of incoming Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez. De Gea has been a target of Los Blancos, knowing that Iker Casillas is already past his prime.

De Gea, who tallied 93 saves in 37 English Premier League games this season, started playing at Old Trafford since making a move from Atletico Madrid in 2011. Sources close to the situation indicated that De Gea wanted to stay with the Red Devils in the long run and will not make a move if not for the strong interest from Real Madrid.

"David has loved his time at United and wouldn't even consider leaving if it wasn't for the fact it's Real Madrid that want to sign him," a source told Daily Star. "He knows he can achieve so much more at Real and Madrid is where he's from. All his friends and family are there."

De Gea's departure could also pave the way for the long-talked deal between Manchester United and Real Madrid for Gareth Bale, who has been on Van Gaal's radar over the past several months.

Manchester United reportedly offered £110 million to acquire Bale along with Rafael Varane, but Real Madrid turned down the offer. If the deal for De Gea comes into fruition, van Gaal will have more budget to spend to acquire Bale in the summer transfer window.

As for anew goalkeeper, the Daily Star reported also revealed that van Gaal could target Petr Cech, Hugo Lloris or Asmir Begovic to take the post that could be vacated by De Gea.
