Floyd Mayweather Next Fight: Amir Khan Confident Al Haymon Will Convince ‘Money’ To Face Him in September

British boxer Amir Khan is confident he will finally get a shot against undefeated world champion Floyd Mayweather, who is planning to make his farewell fight in September.

Khan, who is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Chris Algieri last month, said that he has already talked to influential adviser Al Haymon.

The Bolton, England native said that Haymon advised him to face Mayweather. Haymon also has a strong relationship with Mayweather, which makes Khan convinced that the reigning pound-for-pound king will decide to face him in September.

Khan, who has been lobbying for his dream bout since late 2013, said that he will not make desperate moves to make the fight happen and will just let Haymon do the job for him.

"Al Haymon advises me and he advises Mayweather," Khan told BoxingScene. "I think he can make the fight happen and at the moment I'm just going to leave it to him. I'm not really focusing on it. I'm just going to stay back, lay low at the moment and let him make the moves. He'll come back and approach me."

Mayweather, who improved his record to 48-0 after scoring a unanimous decision victory against Manny Pacquiao in their record-setting bout last month, was previously linked to a fight against Khan before he decided to face Marcos Maidana twice last year.

Khan also called out Mayweather earlier this year, but the 38-year-old world champion opted to face Pacquiao. The Briton feels that he is closer to landing the fight than before, and he believes the bout will also be a boost to Mayweather in terms of fan base.

"I think it can happen, for sure. Financially it makes sense," Khan said. "It's going to help Floyd's fan base, especially in other parts of the world - like Pakistan, India, Dubai, and the UK. The UK fans wants it."

But while Khan is optimistic that his dream fight will finally turn into reality later this year, former world champion Prince Naseem Hamed thinks otherwise. Hamed believes Mayweather is ducking Khan because he knows the former world champion could put him into trouble through speed and fighting style.

Hamed said in an interview with ESPN UK that instead of chasing Mayweather, Khan should just shift his focus to arranging a fight against fellow Briton Kell Brook, who is the reigning International Boxing Federation welterweight world champion and is also undefeated in 35 professional fights.
