"I pray that I, who received much love from God and my parents, would be used as a channel through which God's kingdom would be expanded, and build up those who are in weary and difficult circumstances." - Hannah Seo (1st Runner Up)

The third annual "Hyo" Writing and Arts Contest awarded students at a ceremony on Saturday morning at Fullerton Presbyterian Church. Joshua Oh and Jimin Oh received grand prizes for the writing and arts portions, respectively. Hannah Seo was the first runner up for the writing portion, and Joseph Han and Edward Kwon were first runners up for the arts portion.

This year's contest focused on the theme, "Who Am I?" and recieved 104 submissions. Hyo Sarang Mission, which hosted the contest, said that it had hopeful expectations that in exploring one's own identity, students would be able to learn a healthy and biblical perspective on how they could honor their parents.

"In the immigrant community, parents leave the legacy of an upright faith and an honest lifestyle," said Young Chan Kim, the president of Hyo Sarang Mission. "Those who are aware of their identity are also aware of what they should be living for."

"I hope that students would be able to restore their identity with their families at the center, and continue in fulfilling their futures with the right moral values," Kim added.

Young Kim, Assemblywoman for the 65th District, and Peter Kim, the Mayor of La Palma, were among several leaders who sent their congratulatory remarks for the contestants. A children's choir and Seeds of Worship also performed at the awards ceremony.

Both the writing and arts portions had honorable mentions, runners up, scholarship awardees, and grand prize winners. Assemblywoman Young Kim personally congratulated and delivered the awards to the students on Saturday.
