Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day 2," the sequel for the highly successful sci-fi film from the 90s "Independence Day" starring Hollywood A-list star Will Smith has finally gotten a title - "Independence Day Resurgence."

According to Cinema Blend, this piece of information was revealed by Emmerich and his cast as they conducted a live telecast from Albuquerque. The director  said that the title speaks of what is in store in the sequel, which is a resurgence of the franchise, and of this universe.

Emmerich admittedly hates sequels, so what he did with this next movie is more of a reboot or an expansion of its existing world, where the cast will have to fight a common extraterrestrial enemy.

The director also revealed that there will be two spacecrafts that will play a prominent role in the sequel - the Moon Tug and Human Hybrid Fighter Jet.

The Moon Tug is a huge beast of a craft that is housed on a moon base as part of the military's Earth Space Defense, while the Human Hybrid Fighter Jet will get a sweet upgrade in the sequel.

The stars of the upcoming movie are Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Angelababy, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Jessie Usher, and Liam Hemsworth.

Usher will play the new lead character Dylan Hiller, who is the son of Smith's character Captain Steven Hiller, who will not be a part of "Independence Day Resurgence."

Hemsworth will be playing Jake Morrison, the son-in-law of former U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore. The role of Whitmore will be reprised by the actor Bill Pullman.

Meanwhile, Goldblum will be reprising his role as computer whiz David Levinson while the original film's lead character.

"Independence Day Resurgence" will be set 20 years after the original movie. The world has seen quite an improvement and has managed to repair itself after the alien invasion and even benefitted from the technology left behind by the aliens. However, little does the human race know that the extraterrestrials managed to send a distress signal before they were completely destroyed, and now their backup is finally coming and is bent on seeking revege on Earth.

The sequel will boast of a new generation of human heroes, and Usher and Hemsworth are most definitely part of the group who will set to save the human race.

20th Century Fox has officially scheduled Independence Day 2 to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
