‘Final Fantasy VII’ Remake for PS4 Will Not Have New Characters According to Game Director

Final Fantasy VII

The director of the "Final Fantasy VII" remake confirmed that the upcoming version of the game will not feature new characters.

Although gamers will still be able to see the familiar characters, director Tetsuya Nomura hinted that the remake will feature a more realistic game play system.

The original "Final Fantasy VII" title first came out in 1997 for Sony's PlayStation console. Now, 18 years later, development studio Square Enix announced that is working on a remake of the popular role-playing video game.

In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu via Gematsu, Nomura shared a few details regarding the game's remake. He clearly specified that the development team will not add new characters to the game.

"There won't be new characters," the director told Famitsu. "As for virtual taste, we're doing them to match today's visuals and appear closer to reality."

Aside from retaining the new characters, Nomura said that the remake will not simply feature better graphic quality. Instead, Square Enix plans to deliver something new to the gamers in terms of content. Although Nomura did not go into detail regarding these changes, he hinted that the upcoming game may feature an updated or more realistic game system.

However, as noted by Techno Buffalo, it would be interesting to know how Square Enix will make "Final Fantasy VII" appear realistic since the game franchise is known for featuring out-of-this-world weapons, creatures and characters.

Currently, the "Final Fantasy VII" still does not have a definite release date. But according to Nomura, once it comes out, it will head straight to the PlayStation 4.

"You'll be able to play it first on PlayStation 4," he said during the interview. "We're not thinking beyond that yet, so after that is undecided."

Based on the director's statements, it's safe to assume that the game will not be exclusively released to Sony's next-gen console. Since the future of the game is still undecided, it might debut for the Xbox One after its PlayStation 4 release.
