Floyd Mayweather Next Fight: Amir Khan Ready To Face ‘Richest Athlete’ on September 12

Amir Khan

Amir Khan continues to lobby for a showdown against Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the British boxer insisted he is ready to face the reigning pound-for-pound king on September 12 in Las Vegas.

Khan said in an interview with Ringcast that he has been talking to influential adviser Al Haymon about the fight against Mayweather, who was recently named by Forbes as the richest athlete today.

"We've been talking to Al Haymon and hopefully we'll find out in a week what's going to happen," Khan said. "Mayweather wants to fight on September 12 and I'll be ready for that date."

Mayweather, who holds a perfect 48-0 record with 26 knockouts, is coming off a big win against Manny Pacquiao in their record-breaking showdown last month.

The unbeaten world champion recently hinted that he will consider facing Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield in September. Khan thinks both Berto and Mayfield will be an easy opponent for Mayweather.

The Bolton, England native said Mayweather wants an easy fight in what could be his farewell bout. But for him, Mayweather's legacy will be tainted if he decides to go for an easy way out in his final fight even if he has already defeated Pacquiao, who is considered as his biggest nemesis.

"Floyd says he thinks he needs an easy fight now because he's proved himself by beating Pacquiao," Khan said. "He wants to fight Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield. No disrespect to those two because they're good fighters and good friends of mine too. I think he's messing his own legacy up. He needs to finish on a high."

Khan also confirmed that he has talked to Floyd Mayweather Sr. The elder Mayweather allegedly told him that he will be an easy opponent for his son, but Khan questioned why the opposing camp looks afraid to face him.

The former world champion, who holds a 31-3 record with 19 knockout victories, was considered favorite to land a fight against Mayweather last year, but the Grand Rapids native decided to face Marcos Maidana in May 2014 and in a rematch in September 2014.

"I spoke to his father and he says it'd be an easy fight if Mayweather fought me. If it'd be so easy then why not do it?" Khan lamented. "Mayweather hasn't announced who he wants to fight yet. He's mentioned a few names but mine should've been in there because it's a fight that the fans want."
