Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Will Dez Bryant Get a New Deal Before July 15 Deadline? Tony Romo Thinks So

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant

The Dallas Cowboys and Dez Bryant have yet to reach a new deal, but Tony Romo is not concerned about the issue because he is confident it will eventually be settled soon.

The Cowboys and Bryant have until July 15 to settle the contract issues. Once the deadline passes, Bryant will have to sit out or pick up the guaranteed $12.823 million salary for the 2015 NFL season.

Bryant has skipped offseason workouts as he is pushing for a new deal to secure his future in Dallas. When asked about the situation during a news conference, Romo said that he understands Bryant because NFL is still a business.

Romo cited the case of former teammate DeMarco Murray, who left the Cowboys and signed a four-year, $42 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the offseason.

"The NFL is a business, it really is. You'll see that side sometimes, with DeMarco leaving and Dez not being part of the offseason," Romo said via My Racine Country.

Romo expressed confidence, though, that Bryant will start the season for the Cowboys because he thinks the contract issues will be settled before the deadline.

"I think it will work out with Dez. We have a competition right now at running back," Romo said. "The guys have done a good job, and I've seen some good things from them."

Cowboys radio play-by-play announcer Brad Sham also had the same take as Romo when asked about Bryant's situation. While there has been rumors the 26-year-old wide receiver is willing to sit out, Sham said Bryant loves the game so much, which also makes him believe Bryant and the Cowboys will find a common ground.

"I have always thought it was going to be worked out," Sham told Dallas News. "He wants to play. And I know you guys probably know more than I do about who's talking to who, but I have always thought they would have a long-term deal for Dez before July 15."

Bryant had an impressive season for the Cowboys last year as he tallied 88 catches for 1,320 yards and a league-best touchdown reception. Over the past three seasons, Bryant has posted at least 88 catches, 1,233 yards and 12 touchdown for the Cowboys.
