Galaxy Tab 4

Samsung has started releasing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Wi-Fi variant of the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0.

The arrival of the firmware upgrade for Samsung's tablet comes with various new features and enhancements that are expected to improve the device's overall performance.

According to various sources, the update first came out to Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 users in South Korea and Russia. There are no details yet as to when it will roll out to other regions but since it already arrived in different countries, users from around the globe can probably expect to see the update soon.

The version 5.1.1 of the Lollipop OS is considered as a major firmware update for the tablet because ever since it was released, the device has been stuck on the stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

With the jump from KitKat to Lollipop, Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 users will get the new Material Design from Android. In addition, the update also features new customization options for the device's notification settings as well as improvements for its user interface.

The update also comes with new battery saving features as well as a couple of bug fixes.

According to Sam Mobile, the update can be downloaded as an over-the-air file. But before downloading and installing it though, users should make sure that they are connected to a secure Wi-Fi network and that their devices have sufficient battery life.

Users are also strongly advised to back-up their data before starting the download process.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 officially came out in May of last year. It sports an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The tablet runs on the 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset from Qualcomm and packs 1.5GB of RAM. Depending on the variant, the device has 16GB or 32GB of expandable internal storage.
