"The Walking Dead' continues to add to to its cast as two more actors join the hit zombie drama series.

As confirmed by executive producer David Alpert during the show's San Diego Comic Con panel on July 10, Merritt Wever and Ethan Embry will both make an appearance in the sixth season of the hit AMC series.

Wever previously bagged an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2013 for her performance as nurse Zoey Barkow in the dark comedy "Nurse Jackie' on Showtime.

The 35-year-old actress also took on the role of Annie in the black comedy drama "Birdman,' which took home 2014's Best Picture Academy Award.

Meanwhile, Embry is widely recognized for his role as Declan Giggs on the drama series "Brotherhood,' which also airs on Showtime. The 37-year-old actor opened up about his casting through social media by tweeting: "I've been adopted by the best family in TV."

He also added the following statement in a follow-up post: "I'm a HUGE fan of #TWD [so] the last few months have been like I won the greatest sweepstakes of all time. Thank you all for the warm welcome!"

Although the roles that these newcomers will be taking on remain unclear, E! News reported that Wever will be portraying a character from the comic book, on which the series is based.

In addition, Comicbook.com claimed that Wever might be playing Denise Cloyd, one of the three doctors residing in the safe-zone community of Alexandria as based on the comics.

As the TV version of surgeon Pete, played by Corey Brill, was killed off in the season five finale, it is expected that the "Walking Dead' producers will be adding a new character with a medical background within the walled community.

If Wever does play the role of Denise, fans could look forward to a number of romantic scenes between the actress and Corey Hawkins, who has been set to portray Heath on the series. In the comics, their characters developed a more-than-friends connection with each other.

The first official trailer for "The Walking Dead' season six, which was recently unveiled at Comic-Con, offers a glimpse at several scenes with Embry's character. However, it remains whether his character is based from the comics.

"The Walking Dead' is set to return on Oct. 11, Sunday, at 9 p.m. on AMC with a special 90-minute episode. The official trailer can be viewed below.
