Gaming News: Update 2.57 for PlayStation 4 Aims to Fix Console’s Stability Issues

PlayStation 4

Sony has just released the update 2.57 for the PlayStation 4 console.

According to the company, the latest software update is designed to fix some of the console's stability issues.

As noted by Sony in a Twitter post, update 2.57 is only a minor upgrade. Although the company did not reveal the exact details of the update, it mentioned that the latest release will further improve the stability of some of the PlayStation 4's features.

"PS4 system software update 2.57 coming soon, it's a minor update that improves stability of some features," Sony tweeted on July 21.

Then, on July 22, PlayStation Lifestyle reported that the latest update is already available.

To get the update, PlayStation 4 owners should head over to the System Software Update section under the Settings menu. This will prompt the console to automatically check the status of its firmware. Once the update has been detected, it will be downloaded into the console's system.

After downloading the file, which has a size of 245MB, on-screen instructions will appear regarding its installation process.

PlayStation 4 owners should take note that during the download and installation procedures, they should not turn off their consoles. Doing so will interrupt the process which could damage the console's system.

Those who do not wish to download the update directly to their consoles, but to a USB stick instead, may do so through the U.S. and U.K. sites for PlayStation.

However, unlike the PS4 System Update 2.55, which came out earlier this month, update 2.57 is optional. Although both were released as minor updates, Sony required PlayStation 4 owners to download the former. It also featured improvements for the system's stability.

The last major update that Sony's next-gen console received was version 2.5, also known as Yukimura. It officially came out in March of this year and came with a list of new features for the PlayStation 4.

One of these is the Suspend/Resume mode. This feature allows gamers to activate their console's Rest Mode if they want to take a break from playing their games. They can then resume playing by pressing the PlayStation icon button on the DualShock 4 controller.

Another major feature of the update lets gamers add Facebook friends through an account linked to their PlayStation 4 consoles. Through this feature, they can check what their friends are currently playing and join in if they have the same game.
