Gear A Specs, Features & Release Date: New Samsung Smartwatch’s 4GB RAM, Other Specs Confirmed

Samsung has just confirmed some of the key specifications of its upcoming Gear A smartwatch.

According to sources, the upcoming wearable device will be the company's first smartwatch that will sport a round face design, Sam Mobile reported.

During the recent Tizen Developer Summit held by Samsung in India, the South Korean tech giant unveiled one of its upcoming products.

Based on the company's presentation, the upcoming Gear A device will feature a rotating bezel ring. Samsung, however, did not reveal the exact functions of the rotating ring. But various sources are speculating that it might be similar to the Apple Watch's digital crown, which can be used to scroll through the screen or zoom in on images.

Aside from this, Samsung announced that the Gear A's round display will have a resolution of 360x360 pixels. It will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 3472 processor and will have 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The device is also expected to have Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi connectivity support as well as a heart rate sensor. Samsung noted that the smartwatch will run on a 250mAh battery. Like the company's previous wearable devices, the Gear A will come with an updated Tizen firmware as its operating system.

The unveiling of the Gear A can be considered as a major step for Samsung because it marks the company's first smartwatch with a round display.

From the Galaxy Gear, which came out in 2013 to the Gear S that was released in November last year, the company has only made smartwatches with square screens.

According to GSM Arena, Samsung has been working on the Gear A since the start of the year. However, the site noted that the company has been putting off the launch of the wearable device. This is probably because it is waiting for the popularity of the Apple Watch to settle before introducing the smartwatch to the public.

Although the new device from Samsung has already been unveiled to developers, various sources are speculating that the company will officially launch the device to the public on August 13 during its unpacked event.

This will then put the smartwatch side-by-side with the company's other upcoming devices such as the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ that are also rumored to be revealed during the same event.

Although the company has not yet confirmed anything regarding the launch of these devices, Samsung usually turns to its Unpacked events to introduce its high-end products.
