OnePlus 2 Updates & Release Date: Arrival of Flagship Smartphone to U.S. and Canada Delayed by 3 Weeks

OnePlus

OnePlus has announced that the shipment of orders for its current flagship handset for the North American market has been delayed by two to three weeks. According to the company, the smartphone will arrive first in Europe before hitting the U.S. and Canada.

The Chinese tech firm did not go into detail regarding the reasons behind the delay in shipments. However, OnePlus noted that the arrival of the 2 for North American users was affected by its production schedule.

"The production of the OnePlus 2 is in full swing and we're excited to get the OnePlus 2 in your hands," the company wrote in the OnePlus forum page.

"However we do want to tell our users in North America that due to production schedules, shipping to the States and Canada will commence 2-3 weeks after shipments to Europe," OnePlus added.

Despite the delay, the company noted that those who were able to secure an invite will still be able to order their OnePlus 2 handset starting on August 11.

As of today, the company has already sent out around three million invite codes for its current flagship model less than a month after its official launch, WCCF Tech has learned. Aside from its invite system, OnePlus also opened a reservation list. Those who sign-up on this list will also receive invites from the company once they are available.

However, users can still get their hands on the OnePlus 2 even though they don't have an invite or they haven't joined the company's reservation list.

According to iDigital Times, the handset can be purchased through selected retailers even without an invite code. But, the handsets being sold by these retailers are more expensive that those directly offered by OnePlus.

Online shopping site Geekbuying, for example, sells the 16GB version of the OnePlus 2 for $396.99. The handset's 64GB counterpart, on the other hand, can be purchased for $475.99.

Those who will purchase from Oppomart, however, can get the smartphone's 16GB model for $359 while the 64GB variant costs $459.

If ordered straight from OnePlus, the 16GB OnePlus 2 will cost $329 while the bigger model can be purchased for $389.

The company officially introduced the OnePlus 2 on July 28 through a special virtual reality presentation. It features a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The handset is powered by the v2.1 Snapdragon 810 chipset from Qualcomm and packs 3 or 4GB of RAM, depending on the storage variant.
