Details of the unreleased firmware update for the Sony's PlayStation 4 have been revealed.

Based on the leak, it seems owners of the next-generation gaming console can expect to receive new features and services.

Currently, the software update version 3.0 is still in its initial beta stages. But, thanks to testers in Japan who leaked the notes of the update, gamers can get an idea of what's coming to their PlayStation 4 consoles.

According to Gematsu, one of these is the new Events feature for the console's main menu. Through this, gamers will be notified about any PlayStation-related event that they can participate in.

Another new feature is the Community tab under the Friends menu. This will allow players to create or join online communities with other gamers. It will also match gamers with other players who share the same interests and preferences.

The upcoming update will also allow players to broadcast their game play to the video-sharing site YouTube. They will also be able to record clips from their games and upload them to their Twitter accounts. However, they'll only be able to do so as long as the videos are less than 10 seconds long.

Aside from these new additions, the update will also include improvements to the PlayStation 4's existing features. For example, once the firmware update arrives, players will be able to create comments on posts featured in the What's New activity feed.

They'll also be able to restrict access to certain websites and other content through the Settings menu's Parental Controls option.

As noted by Gameskinny, it might take awhile for gamers to get used to all the new additions of update 3.0. But once they master them, they'll surely enjoy the new social-based features of the firmware update.

Sony has not yet announced when it will begin rolling out the latest update for the PlayStation 4. But since it has already undergone beta testing, it might not take long before the firmware update is released to the public. Gamers can expect to receive it within the next few weeks.

The latest update that Sony seeded to PlayStation owners is version 2.57. Released on July 22, this version came with various improvements for previous updates such as 2.55 and 2.51.

The update generally provided stability enhancements for older versions. But, as reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, it was released as an optional update which means gamers are not required to download it.
