‘The Voice’ Season 9: Rihanna Is Key Advisor to Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, and Pharrell Williams

Singer Rihanna was named as key advisor to the four judges on Season 9 of "The Voice' reality television singing competition on Thursday, Aug. 13. Rihanna has won eight Grammy awards in her music career and is set to release her eighth studio album, which she calls "R8."

"We landed Rihanna to be the key advisor to all the coaches this fall. This is one of music's true supervisors coming on board to influence the lives and careers of the performers," said NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt at the Television Critics' Association press tour in Beverly Hills, California on Thursday.

The "American Oxygen' singer will be helping coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, and Pharrell Williams. Other celebrity advisors on Season 9 are Brad Paisley, John Fogerty, Selena Gomez, and Missy Elliot.

Rihanna is 27 years old and is currently signed with Def Jam records. The Barbadian singer is known to be a fashion icon in pop culture. She received the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 2014.

Rihanna tattooed "1988" to her right ankle and posted a photo of it on Instagram on Thursday. The tattoo, inked by artist Bang Bang is of her birth year. She is currently promoting the launching of her latest fragrance, RiRi.

"The Voice' Season 9 returns to NBC on September 21. The show is hosted by Carson Daly.
