Disney Coming Up with First Polynesian Princess Moana Who’s Out for Some Great Adventures

Disney

Moana, the new Disney princess is all ready to shine! She will be the first Polynesian princess in Disney, but who is similar in spirit as princesses of Brave and Frozen, holding her hand on hip and smirking at the smell of new adventure.

The princess Moana will be coming in theatres near you by the end of next year, and was first revealed to the public at Disney's D23 expo, where her sassy sketches and stills were presented.

She will be a 'spirited teenager' and hails from a line of chiefs and sea navigators, wears South Pacific inspired pretty outfits, and sets off on a journey to a mythical island in Oceania.

The movie is brought to you by Ron Clements and Jon Musker - the writers, directors, and producers of The Little Mermaid, Alladin, and The Princess and the Frog, so you can expect some really solid and quality entertainment.

The plot has her embarking on a journey to a mystical island, something that her ancestors could not do, the burden of which fell on her. She was accompanied by her pets Pua the pig and Hei-Hei the rainbow-colored rooster, with a demigod named Maui, voiced by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, by her side. On the way, they will encounter many giant sea creatures, some good, some bad. And like all the Disney movies, there will be a main villain against the heroine, an enormous lava witch, bent of quashing the whole adventure.

The demi-gods and spirits are taken from real Polynesian mythology, and the character of Moana was also developed after the writers' research tour of the island.

"We came away knowing that we wanted to set a story in the world of voyaging and wayfinding, along with the fantasy of Maui. So for the story we were trying to tell, this 16-year-old heroine seemed like the right character to play that story," said Clements.

Moana longs to travel deep into the sea to meet the legendary characters from the accounts narrated by her grandmother, but her father doesn't allow her. Finally, when her folks are in need, she sets out to the magical island to help her family.

The film will have beautiful music fashioned by Lin-Manuel Miranda or Broadway's Hamilton, Mark Mancina of The Lion King, and Opetaia Foa'I who will be the lead singer.

The princess has a deep connection with the ocean, which is depicted as a 'person' in the movie, which split for her when she was a baby to let her see and collect the sea-shells on the ocean floor, and gently touches her as an arm. When she grows up, she still has the shell, reminiscent of her strong connection with the ocean.

For more, wait for the movie to be released next year on November 23, 2016.
