One Direction fans and followers are once again experiencing a heartbreak following the news that the widely popular English boy band is planning an extended hiatus. Mere weeks after the release of "Drag Me Down," the first ever song of the One Direction members without Zayn Malik, the rest of the group decided to pursue other things individually. While the One Direction might not be seen as a team once again anytime soon, it looks like fans of Harry Style, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson will still be able to watch their idols only not as a foursome.

"They are taking a hiatus so they can work on individual projects for a while," reveals a source to E! News. However, the insider was quick to add, "But they are not splitting up." a source told E! News. The source further shares that Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan still intend to reunite as the One Direction following the break and will still collaborate on projects in the future. The insider discloses, "They will remain together and plan to work together in the future."

Hence, fans and followers of One Direction members Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan can expect their idols to "pursue their endeavors" during this extended hiatus. While this does not bode well for the One Direction fans, especially with the recent departure of Zayn Malik, it remains to be seen if this announcement indicates the potential permanent separation of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan as a group.

As early as now though, with the future still hanging in the balance, some fans of One Direction are already branding former band member Zayn Malik as the Ginger Spice of One Direction. It could be recalled that the departure of Ginger Spice, otherwise known as Geri Halliwell, eventually led to the official breakup of the Spice Girls in the 90s. Bearing in mind the abrupt departure of Zayn Malik during the Asian leg of the One Direction tour in the previous year - a move that very much resembles the sudden resistance of Ginger Spice to appear with the Spice Girls in one of their major concerts way back then, One Direction fans are now worried that the extended hiatus will spell out doom for the heartthrobs.

However, it seems that the fears in relation to the eventual breakup of One Direction are unfounded. According to the source, the One Direction members truly intend to reunite. This hiatus will only allow the One Direction members to focus on other things outside their responsibilities as parts of a group.

"They are great friends and fully support one another," shares a source, explaining the situation of the One Direction at the moment. The insider added, "They are very aware that they are able to work on their own stuff as well as remain together. This is an exciting time for them creatively and as a group."
