Marvel has done a pretty fantastic job keeping details about their new movie "Doctor Strange" under wraps while at the same time maintaining hype for the mystic film, and this air of mystery and excitement is exactly what Chiwetel Ejiofor did when he talked about his involvement in the film.
"I am doing 'Doctor Strange' and I'm incredibly excited about it," he said to Entertainment Weekly while he was out promoting his other movie "Z for Zachariah," which is an indie apocalypse drama. "That's all I say."
In "Doctor Strange," the "12 Years a Slave" star will play the villain, 38-year-old Baron Mordo. The film will be directed by Scott Derrickson and will hit theaters sometime in November 2016.
"Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch will star as the titular character while Tilda Swinton will play his mentor called The Ancient One. As for the lead actress, "The Notebook" star Rachel McAdams is reportedly in talks with the studio for the role.
According to Ejiofor, his excitement is largely due to the fact that he admires and respects his co-stars in the film.
"He's a good friend of mine," Ejiofor said of Cumberbatch. The two struck up a friendship in the period drama "12 Years a Slave," so to work together again would be a treat for both actors. "It's gonna be fun. And Tilda Swinton - I haven't worked with her, but I'm excited to work with her. She's brilliant."
The same excitement to work on the film is shared by Swinton, who earlier told Screen Crush that she is "really, really, really excited" to play The Ancient One since she is a huge fan of Marvel.
"Well, there's no particular interest in getting into something bigger, or even smaller, I just really liked the premise of this and the idea of playing this character," she said. "I'm really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what's done in this particular world. It's all about creativity. It's not about everything exploding at the end. It's about something very different. The idea of playing The Ancient One is really just too tickling. I can't say no to that!"
Since committing to the role, Swinton might be asked by Marvel to appear in more movies, and the actress said that she does not mind one bit. "It's like a family thing. Who knows where one might pop up," she said. "I don't know where they'll use me and I don't know that they know, necessarily, even though they seem to know what they're doing for the next decade. I think it's like holding on to the tail of a galloping horse at this point. I'm up for it completely."
