Samsung Galaxy S7 Price, Release Date & Specs: What to Expect from Phone and Phablet

Galaxy S6

It has only been a couple of months since Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge but it seems the company is already working on their predecessors.

Various sources are already releasing detailed reports regarding the specs of the rumored Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7+.

According to new leaks, the South Korean tech giant's upcoming flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7+ devices are expected to sport 5.2 and 5.8-inch screens respectively, Neurogadget reported.

However, based on a benchmark test conducted by Antutu, the large variant of the Galaxy S7 will feature a slightly smaller display at 5.7 inches. It also revealed that the phablet will come with a Quad HD screen with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels.

In addition, the benchmark site leaked that the device, which has been condenamed as Lucky, will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm. It will also feature the Adreno 530 GPU and will pack 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage.

A different benchmark test revealed by Geekbench, however, listed a different processor model for the Galaxy S7. According to the site, the device will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 8890 chipset, which has been codenamed by the company as M1 Mongoose, according to Digital Trends.

The conflicting leaks do not automatically mean that one source is wrong. Instead, they support previous rumors suggesting that Samsung will use both processor models for its next flagship handsets. However, it is not yet clear how the company will decide which model will get the Snapdragon 820 or the M1 Mongoose.

As for its other specs, both models are expected to feature a 16-megapixel main camera paired with a 5-megapixel front shooter. Although this is similar to the camera configuration of the Galaxy S6, Samsung will reportedly include a dual camera system for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7+.

According to Tech Radar, this system is similar to the one found on the One M8 from HTC. As one camera is used to capture an image, the other one will perform a scan to add depth to picture. Aside from this, the system also provides other features related to the camera's settings.

Some rumors suggest that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S7 and its larger counterpart later this year. However, this is an unlikely scenario since Samsung will most probably focus on the Galaxy S6 first before introducing its successor.

Also, a spokesperson from the company previously confirmed that Samsung follows a cycle for the launch of its devices from its S series. This means it will probably take about 12 months after the release of the Galaxy S6 before the company introduces the Galaxy S7. Following this timeline, the public can expect to see upcoming flagship devices sometime in April of next year or even a couple of months earlier.
