When the ninth season of "The Big Bang Theory" finally airs its premiere episode on September 21, fans will have to deal with the blow of Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler's split. It's not easy seeing two beloved characters take a break from each other, and apparently, neither of them will be handling their split well.

Showrunner Steve Molaro talked to The Hollywood Reporter regarding Sheldon and Amy's break-up, saying that fans will see the two struggling with new emotions when season premiere airs.

"This is all new to her and this is as difficult for her as it is for him. He's not making it any easier, so I think they are both feeling their way through this and going through and experiencing feelings and emotions that I don't even think they were expecting," he said.

Molaro added that Sheldon is handling the rejection "not well" especially since it's a problem that can't easily be fixed by a mathematical equation.

"He is a man of science and he's been presented with a problem that he can't just think of a solution for. And it's very frustrating. He doesn't immediately turn to anyone for support; instead, he is going to pursue Amy." revealed Molaro.

The showrunner added that Sheldon will have some pretty misguided notions as to winning Amy back. He will think that it's a good idea to make her jealous so that she will come running back to him, but Molaro said that this plan will only backfire on him.

"He's not good at leaving her alone. The one thing she asked for was a little bit of time to think and he's not going to give that to her," he said.

They haven't decided yet until when Sheldon and Amy will remain broken up, especially since they're having a terrific time exploring this new dynamic between the characters.

"Right now, the dynamic has been fascinating and interesting. We're seeing all new colors for both of them as well as the way it impacts the group," he said. "There's not a set plan - we're feeling this out along the in same way Amy is."

What's even more interesting is that Amy will remain oblivious with regards to Sheldon's ring and his plan to propose to her. At the same time, Sheldon and his roommate Leonard Hofstadter will be in two different places now especially since the latter just got married to Penny.

"That's exactly it: they're trying to all figure it out. We jokingly alluded to the fact that in some way the three of them are kind of married and I think the three of them will need to figure out how this is going to work," said Molaro.
