Even "The Big Bang Theory" lead star Jim Parsons hates it that his character Sheldon Cooper is suffering from his break up with Amy Farrah Fowler (played by Mayim Bialik). Parsons believes that the two are definitely meant to be together, so it's such a shame that the two have to go through heartbreak instead of just staying together.
"I wish we were married!" he said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I mean, I don't know if that would've been a very good place for the show to go though."
However, Parsons knows that this split would be beneficial for both Sheldon and Amy in the end, as difficult as it might currently be for the characters now.
"I do think we must be waiting on Sheldon to come to a better realization of not only that Amy is important to him, but specifically why. He will maybe be able to express that to her and maybe alter his behavior a little bit more to make her more inclined to want to continue," he said.
The show's executive producer Steve Molaro is sympathetic to the emotional ordeals faced by their lead characters, but he confessed that the goal of season 9 is to keep things "fresh, fun and funny," and one way to do that is to delve deeper into the complexities of Sheldon and Amy's relationship.
"I understand where Amy was at," he explained. "I think she loves him and she knows that he loves her in whatever way he's capable of, but they've been together for over five years. And if it's your fifth anniversary night, and you're making out - because that's all you do - and the person you're making out with is really only thinking about 'The Flash' TV show, that's the thousandth straw on that camel's back."
That caused Amy to think if she's with the right person, because it appears that their priorities in life and in their relationship are not in sync.
Now that she has decided to leave Sheldon, Molaro said that it will be interesting to watch Sheldon deal with the trauma of heartbreak because "he cannot apply science and logic to get an answer" in order to fix things."
"It has really opened up some really interesting colors for Jim to play that we've just never seen before and I think that we've been having a lot of fun with that," Molaro teased.
