English actress Kate Winslet is not really a diva to work with on set, but there was one time the actress recalled that she was told off by a prop lady for complaining about being tired.
The actress was working on the "Steve Jobs" movie directed by Danny Boyle together with Michael Fassbender as the titular character, and the work hours were gruelling.
"We filmed in the opera house in the centre of San Francisco, which is a functioning opera house, so we'd start at midnight and film until midday," she shared with Esquire UK. "I remember saying out loud, 'God, I'm so knackered.' And the props woman, who I knew from a couple of other jobs, said, 'Honey, we're here for a lot longer than you are. Shut (expletive) up.' And I went, 'Oh my God, you're so right.'"
The actress believes that life is too short for anyone to develop an unhealthy ego, and this is why she ditches it whenever she applies for a new job.
"With Steve Jobs, I went after that role. I googled Joanna (Hoffman) and took one look at her and thought, 'Of course they're not thinking of me; I looking fucking nothing like her.' I took all the make-up off my face, plonked on a wig and a pair of glasses, took one photo, and sent it to (producer) Scott Rudin, who I know from 'The Reader' and 'Revolutionary Road,' with no message. I had nothing to lose. What were they going to do? Say, 'Thanks very much Kate, really sweet of you, but actually, no'? Doesn't matter. Life's for living," she shared.
Luckily enough, the producer thought that she would be a natural fit for the movie and she got the job.
Winslet's career soared after she landed the role of Rose in "Titanic" alongside Leonardo Di Caprio. "I don't want to have to say Titanicwas the film that had the biggest impact on the direction of my career, but I suppose I do," she admitted. "What it really afforded me was career choice."
This is why she is extremely grateful for director James Cameron for getting her the lead role in that movie. However, the actress would like to clarify that the story about her sending a single rose to the director as a show of thanks is not completely true.
"I did send him a bunch of flowers saying, 'Amazing to meet you, thanks for the opportunity,' or something like that. But I don't think I said, ''I am your Rose.' I wouldn't have been quite so disgusting!" she said.
