"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 has certainly maintained, if not topped the show's ability to deliver a lot of laughs among its audiences, coupled with a lot of eyebrow-raising surprises along the way.
During the second episode called "The Separation Oscillation," Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galekci) is still reeling from his fight with wife Penny (Kaley Cuoco), and it torments him so much that he even dreams that his roommate Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) ends up making out with Penny just to help her get over the kiss he had with his co-worker.
Sheldon and Penny never had any romantic feelings towards one another, so it was the first time that they locked lips in the entire show. And according to Parsons, shooting that steamy and surprising scene was actually "really fun" and "honestly really easy" to do.
"Very early on working on this show, I began working a lot with Kaley on a lot of different scenes because Penny and Sheldon had a lot of scenes together, and it was a very easy relationship to be a part of on-camera," he told Glamour. "Obviously, as different as she and I are - certainly as different as the characters are - that may not seem like the most logical thing to say, but as performers, she and I work very easily together. The first time we rehearsed (the kiss), it was literally just like an extension of the verbal dance we've been doing for eight and a half years. It's always awkward to a degree, but this was shockingly easy. We had so much fun."
It was actually much more fun to do it live in front of an audience, said Parsons, and his only concern was that he and Kaley might get into fits of laughter while anticipating the big kiss.
In the episode called "The 2003 Approximation," newlyweds Leonard and Penny are trying to live on their own and their decision upsets Sheldon very much, especially since he just broke up with his girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler.
Parsons said that a few seasons back, it would be unthinkable for Sheldon to be alone or live with someone else, but now it's slowly becoming a reality.
"They (writers) found a way to not move (Leonard) out yet. I don't know how long we get to keep that living situation...I really don't," he admitted. "They haven't said anything to me. I have great faith in them though. They've done so many things with these characters that have been seemingly out of line with what was expected, but they always handle it in an organic way that is based in where the show has actually gone to and come from."
