Global Warming Solutions: Bill Nye ‘the Science Guy’ Knows How the World can Beat Climate Change

Bill Nye

Bill Nye, the enthusiastic and inspiring former host of the television series "Bill Nye the Science Guy," detailed his plans to solve the growing issue of climate change in his new book "Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World."

According to the pop scientist, the people of Earth have everything that they need stop this ecological problem.

In his new book, Nye discussed that various ways people can do to stop or even reverse the effects of global warming. These can be as simple as recycling, turning off unused lights or through more complex means such as mainly relying on nuclear energy and growing genetically modified crops, the Billings Gazette reported.

Aside from these, Nye also compared the pros and cons of the new technological trends and methods that people can follow to reduce the carbon emissions of their homes.

Nye noted that these effective solutions can be done as long as proper policies are enacted and the public commits to them.

"There's enough energy in most places - wind, solar, tidal and geothermal - to run the whole world," he told National Geographic. "What we need is to do it. We need to get started. What we want to do is provide electricity, worldwide communication via the Internet, and clean water to everyone in the world."

"This is absolutely doable from an engineering standpoint," he added. "But to get it done in a timely fashion we have to enact a fee on carbon dioxide production and release of methane. If we had this policy change, we could change the world."

The scientists also warned that if proper action is not taken immediately, the world could be facing the irreversible environmental effects of sea level rise, increasing temperatures and glacial melt within a few years. These are considered as the biggest threats to people's survival as these can have huge impacts on various necessities such as food supply, fresh water resources and proper shelter.

As stressed by Nye, the world can fight global warming and its effects through a number of solutions. But, the only the public will be able to come up with an effective plan is through proper discussions. Through these, awareness regarding the global issue will spread and hopefully change the minds of climate change deniers.

"The best thing any of us in the developed world, especially in the United States, can be doing is talking about it," he told the Associated Press according to the Calgary Herald. "It's strangely a hard thing to talk about because it's become so political and divisive, and people have a tendency to give up and see it as overwhelming. But I claim that it's not."
