Tech News: OnePlus Releases New Rear Cases for Apple’s iPhone 6S

OnePlus' latest rear cover for smartphones is not for its OnePlus 2 flagship handset. Instead, the new accessory was specifically designed for Apple's iPhone 6S.

The release of the cover does not mean that Apple has contracted the Chinese smartphone maker to manufacture physical add-ons to its handsets. Instead, OnePlus unveiled the accessory as part of its attempt to persuade Apple users into ditching their iPhones, Tech News Today.

The rear covers released by OnePlus feature a sandstone finish that can provide users with a more stable grip on the slightly slippery body of the iPhone 6S. The company even added its logo and the slogan "Get a Grip #Never Settle" on the casing, which strongly suggests that Apple iPhone owners should consider getting a new device.

As of these sly marketing tactics are not enough, OnePlus included special invites in the packaging of the covers. These invites are meant to tell people to buy the OnePlus X, the mid-range handsets that the company debuted in October of this year.

OnePlus then took another jab at Apple by posting an ad for the casing on its Twitter page and telling its followers that the new accessory is for "non-techie" users.

We've been working on the perfect gift for your non-techie friends," the company wrote.

The new OnePlus rear covers for the iPhone 6S are now available and can be purchased for $19.99. As Tech News Today noted, it's a bit hard to gauge if OnePlus attempt at persuading Apple users to jump ship will actually work since these customers are notorious for being loyal to products released by the Cupertino-based tech giant.

As for the OnePlus X, the handset was officially released in November and sports a 5.0-inch display with a screen resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. It is powered by the Snapdragon 801 processor from Qualcomm and features the Adreno 330 as its graphics processing unit, according to GSM Arena.

The device has dual SIM support and packs 3GB of RAM with 16GB of internal memory. Through the device's microSD support, the smartphone's storage space can be pushed up to 128GB.

For its camera configurations, OnePlus equipped the OnePlus X with a 13-megapixel main camera with phase detection autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, panorama and HDR. The front side of the device houses an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. The device runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system. The standard version of the device features an onyx color but the premium model comes in ceramic.
