‘Star Wars Battlefront’ Updates & Gameplay: Free Battle of Jakku DLC Now Avilable for Those Who Pre-Ordered New ‘Star Wars’ Game

Star Wars: Battlefront

The first expansion pack for "Star Wars Battlefront" is now available for those who pre-ordered the game.

The DLC, titled Battle of Jakku is connected to the events that will lead up to the upcoming film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

According to Forbes, those who purchased "Star Wars Battlefront" before its official release this month were already able to play through Battle of Jakku as early as December 1. As for those who are still waiting to get their hands on the free DLC, the content update will be available for everyone starting on December 8.

As its title suggests, the first expansion pack for the game takes place in the desert planet of Jakku. In the "Star Wars" film universe, this planet witnessed one of the most major battles between the Rebel forces and the Galactic Empire. Based on the film series' timeline, the Battle of Jakku took place after the Battle of Endor, which was shown in "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi."

Jakku will also appear in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as a war-torn planet.

As for the DLC, it comes with the map of Jakku as well as a new game mode. Dubbed as Turning Point, this new mode can hold up to 40 players in a single match.

The objective of gamers playing for the Rebels in Turning Point is to capture all three Empire bases in the map. However, they only have a limited time to capture and hold one base. Once they have successfully accomplished this, another base will appear which they will also have to capture. More time will be added to the match for every captured base.

Although this objective may seem simple enough to complete, the lead level designer said it is important for Empire and Revel players to strategize their actions.

"Let's say there's only 25% left of the claim process and the empire has managed to drive away the Rebels," Dennis Branvall of development studio DICE said in a statement according to Gamespot.

"This means that the empire have to choose between defending this vulnerable point or another part of the map," he added. "The Rebels in turn need to decide where their next attack should be."

Players will also be able to utilize vehicles such as airspeeders and AT-ST walkers in Turning Point. But as DICE noted, these walkers can only be used for defensive forces unlike in the game's Walker Assault mode.
